2017 marks the 10th birthday of MOs Design, and what better way to celebrate a decade of bringing together art and design than to introduce a new brand that shares in its passion and people-centric approach. Sancal is a Spanish furniture brand rooted in innovation that is approachable, sensible, and practical. Each of its pieces is brightly coloured by the stories of global designers and the vibrant creative culture of its hometown in Yecla. With this, MOs Design emphasises its role as an open, exciting meeting point of different design cultures and histories in the years to come.
Sancal is a family-run company that was founded forty years ago. It started with producing classic Marie Antoinette chairs, but moved into modern design that is relevant to everyone—a timely decision, and appropriate to Spain’s own transition to a liberal democracy. All of its pieces are produced in-house by craftsmen and artisans, with wood from renewable sources in a factory powered by electricity from their own solar panels. This sensitivity to community and environment reflects the core of Sancal’s ethos: passion for the authentic, open, and creative, where they are happiest in the humble act of creating contemporary yet timeless pieces.
Launched in August 2007, MOs Design features an expanding repertoire of international brands which specialise in design furniture. Each brand has its own unique values and concepts, reflecting various tastes, functions, and lifestyles—from the global aesthetic of BoConcept to the Italian craftsmanship of Natuzzi Italia, the refined eclecticism of Ligne Roset, the various icons, classics, and heritages of Vitra, Carl Hansen & Søn, and Anglepoise, to the extraordinary materialism of Tom Dixon. MOs Design is also synonymous to the artist-run gallery that is as much a part of its identity as its love for design. MO_Space crowns this remarkable marriage of art and design with monthly exhibitions showcasing innovative works by Manila’s most dynamic and contemporary artists.
