Last February 24 to 26, MOs Design joined the Great British Festival 2017 to feature British brands under their flagship store at Taguig City: Anglepoise and Tom Dixon. It was the third installment of the Great British Festival with the theme of “British Markets,” re-setting this at the whole expanse of Bonifacio High Street.
The Great British Festival is the largest foreign street festival in the Philippines, highlighting the British culture through music, arts, fashion, food and drinks, education, cars, and lifestyle. Being British brands themselves, Tom Dixon and Anglepoise shows the British culture on their own.
Tom Dixon’s creative design and style through their furniture and lighting pieces, and accessories show British innovation through the years. Tom Dixon was even awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty the Queen in 2000 for services to Innovation and Design. On the other hand, Anglepoise is an iconic British brand patented in 1932 by automotive engineer George Carwardine. What makes it iconic is the fact that the Anglepoise Original 1227 was featured on a Royal Mail Stamp on its 75th anniversary back in 2009.
This is where furniture and design can also become ways to educate people about a certain culture, and how the innovation of design is seen through furniture and accessory pieces. It was truly a great weekend to introduce the two British brands to Filipinos, giving them stronger ties to the British culture through British design.
