Into the Iconic: Togo Turns 50

« A tube of toothpaste folded back on itself like a stovepipe and closed at both ends. »
Michel Ducaroy, Togo designer

When Ligne Roset comes to mind, the most iconic piece would be the Togo. Designed by Michel Ducaroy in 1973, to this day the Togo has sold close to 1.5 million pieces in 72 countries around the world.

A symbol of the changing times post 1968 – “trouver la plage sous les pavés” (literally, “finding the beach beneath the paving stones” – a saying used to suggest that the possibilities are endless) – Togo is also the fruit of Michel Ducaroy’s reflections on the almost limitless possibilities offered by new materials such as quality foams and polyester quilting.

As it marks its 50th year, Togo is releasing two limited-edition coverings - Atom by Kvadrat and La Toile du Peintre by Pierre Frey; two unique looks for this timeless masterpiece.

The La Toile covering brings in a burst of energy to any room with its large graphic pattern in vibrant colors, perfect for those who want to bring in a stroke of artistic expression to their space. Meanwhile the Atom covering by Kvadrat is an experimental bouclé fabric with no visible repeat, showcasing its own variety of vibrant color specks, reminiscent of the pointillist landscapes.
